First team to win Counties 5 Surrey with an unblemished record

As coaches we’ve seen their work rate and how it’s paid off – we know if we keep building on those foundations we can compete again next year
- Matt Sanford, Head Coach

It’s been confirmed that Reigate will be playing in Counties 4 Surrey league next season having topped the table as undefeated champions this year.

It was at the end of a long campaign that Reigate were able to play a match under “game-on” rules against Merton on Saturday, lending 7 players in each half to the hosts in order to have a game played after several last minute cry-offs.

Not to let the disappointment get to them, Reigate played a well spirited match which enabled 29 players to have a runout as the league campaign drew to a close, winning the game 38-14.

Speaking afterwards Head Coach Matt Sanford gave his view on the league campaign, stating “the boys have done really well and come together as a squad to pull in the same direction. Winning the league is great, but to do it unbeaten is even better. As coaches we’ve seen their work rate and how it’s paid off – we know if we keep building on those foundations we can compete again next year given how close the leagues are in terms of quality.

“Our focus now shifts to knockout rugby and the Papa John’s Cup next weekend, a tough draw against Old Georgians but one I back this squad to win. We’ll prepare well this week, go through selection as coaches and put a great performance on at home.”

Reigate will be joined in Counties 4 Surrey next year either by Raynes Park who sit 19 pts behind them, or London French who will most likely leap frog them if they manage to get just 1 bonus point in their game in hand match against Woking (baring a significant margin of victory well above 200pts)
