Silverware caps off impressive season for promising crop of youngsters

the boys can take huge pride in this display and hopefully stick together to build further into Colts rugby and beyond at Reigate
- Dec Skehan, Reigate Rugby Club Chairman

Reigate Rugby U16s claimed a hard-fought 31-24 victory over Old Whitgiftians RFC in a thrilling Quins Cup encounter at Colley Lane on Sunday morning.

Reigate’s youngsters showed from the first whistle the same form and intensity that's been on display for most of the year, disciplined and patient - taking opportunities as they presented themselves. The coaching team all noted that the progression of the youngsters over the course of the season has been fantastic and the rewards show for themselves, cheered on by a supportive home crowd.

The team showed a true all-round effort, with dominance on both sides of the ball – including a herculean effort in defence, putting their bodies on the line time and time again. The youngsters were relentless at the breakdown, jackling to great success repeatedly, securing key turnovers in dangerous parts of the pitch and halting the visitors’ momentum in its tracks.

In attack, more of the unity and cohesion built over years of playing together came to the fore, showing an ambition and attacking intent to ruthless levels. There was a brace of tries from Victor & Connor, with Freddie adding a fifth – as well as slotting three conversions despite the pressures that a cup final can bring to cement the victory.

“This match showed the continued growth of this crop of youngsters, both as individuals and a team,” said Chairman Dec Skehan afterwards, “the boys can take huge pride in this display and hopefully stick together to build further into Colts rugby and beyond at Reigate.”
