Players to wear socks this season with fundraising efforts kicking off with raffle this Saturday at anniversary event

MND is a devastating condition that seems to be overrepresented in our sport
- Matt Sanford, Head Coach

As part of our 90th Anniversary Celebrations, Reigate Rugby Club are raising money for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation – a charity who seek a world free of Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Senior players will be wearing My Name’5 Doddie socks throughout the season to raise awareness to the cause, with several parts of Saturday’s 90th Anniversary Celebrations also raising funds for this great charity.

The Walking Rugby Tournament kicking off at 11am has 10 teams from local clubs taking part, each team will be contributing to our Just Giving collection in lieu of any entry fee. Additionally, there will be a raffle on Saturday with a host of brilliant prizes:

- My Name’5 Doddie Foundation ball signed by 10 British & Irish Lions legends
- My Name’5 Doddie Foundation merchandise
- DropKick Brewing taproom voucher
- DropKick Brewing selection pack
- EggChaser voucher

Be sure to head down to Colley Lane and grab your ticket for this fantastic cause – all proceeds go to the Foundation. Alternatively, if you would like to donate without a raffle ticket you can do so here, this will also allow you to boost your donation further by adding GiftAid if you wish.

Thanks to all those who’ve been able to donate prizes from the local businesses above to fundraising legends like Dave Setters who’ve been a crucial connection to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

On why the club chose to support My Name’5 Doddie Foundation Head Coach Matt Sanford summed it up perfectly: “MND is a devastating condition that seems to be overrepresented in our sport. The socks the players are wearing were bought from the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation so have already helped raise funds in some small measure, but they will raise awareness of the Foundation for the season ahead. This is a good cause and the players are fully behind it, we can’t wait to kick off our fundraising push for the season in full on Saturday at the anniversary event.”

Approximately 1,100 people are diagnosed with MND every year in the UK. Up to 5,000 adults in the UK are affected at any one time. It affects people from all walks of life and in different ways, it is a disease which affects the motor neurons of the nervous system, is life shortening and mostly progresses rapidly. You can find out more at My Name’5 Doddie Foundation or via the Motor Nureuone Disease Association’s websites.
