Reigate Rugby Club is beaming with pride as one of its former players, Nikolay “Niko” Bogdanov, has officially made his international debut for Bulgaria. On October 4th, in Sofia, Niko took to the field against Turkey, earning his first cap and marking a remarkable milestone in his rugby journey.

Niko was a loved member of Reigate Rugby Club from around 2015, known not only for his skill on the pitch but also for his infectious spirit and camaraderie off it. In 2016, he played a pivotal role in organising a memorable club tour to Sofia, where Reigate faced a local Bulgarian team and watched the national side compete in a World Cup qualifier. That tour, filled with laughter, competition, and cultural exchange, left a lasting impression on all who attended.

Now, nine years later, those same teammates can proudly say they once shared the pitch with an international rugby player.

“Niko was always a standout character,” said a club spokesperson. “His passion for the game and his heritage brought us closer to Bulgaria, and it’s incredibly special to see him represent his country at the highest level.”

Upon receiving congratulations from his former clubmates, Niko responded with heartfelt words:
“Your love and support are felt from afar. As a matter of fact, whilst walking around the Sofia town centrum, I have been reminiscing and sharing stories from our adventures back in 2016. Dear all, thank you immensely for these endless memories.
