On a crisp Sunday morning, Reigate U14s welcomed Hove for the highly anticipated reverse fixture of last year’s tour clash — a game that had ended in heartbreak for Reigate with a late defeat.
This time, the boys were out for redemption, and they delivered in style.
Hove came flying out of the gates, catching Reigate cold with a sharp early try in the corner. Though the conversion drifted wide, the visitors had laid down a marker. But Reigate weren’t rattled — they regrouped quickly and struck back with precision. Ollie Cowan sliced through the defence and dotted down under the posts, with the conversion sailing through to give Reigate a 7–5 lead.
The middle stages of the match were a fierce tug-of-war, with both sides trading blows in a physical contest. Harry Shekyls-Young powered over for Reigate, followed by another classy finish from Ollie Cowan. Hove kept themselves in the hunt with tries of their own, but it was the boot that made the difference — Reigate’s conversions proving decisive.
Then came the moment of magic. With the game hanging in the balance, Ollie Cowan read the play like a seasoned pro, snatching an interception and blazing 70 metres downfield to score his third try of the day — a hat-trick hero and the match-winner!
? Man of the Match: Matthew Peare
On his first start for Reigate, Matthew was a revelation at blindside flanker. A relentless tackler and a menace at the breakdown, he played with the heart of a lion and was instrumental in disrupting Hove’s rhythm all game long.
