After a couple of tough away fixtures, the U14's returned to Colley Lane on Sunday against Old Emmanuel Lions. They unveiled their new team strip supplied by their team sponsors D & E Roberts Recycling.

Reigate couldn't have wished for a better start when Jack Love caught the kick off in front of his own 22 and drove through the defensive line of the Lions. After riding a number of tackles he outpaced the back line to score the first try in under a minute. Owen Sheasby then slotted the conversion to open a 7 -0 lead.

The Lions were clearly unsettled by this and from their kick off, Reigate again gathered the ball and drove at their line. The Reigate forwards were quickly onto the breakdowns and drove forward through a number of phases into the Lions 22. Quick play out to Sam Dolan on the wing, gave him the opportunity to find the gaps and dive over for the second try still within the first 5 minutes. Evan Grimwood calmly kicked the extra points to put Reigate firmly in control.

The next 10 minutes developed into a great spectacle as the Lions found there feet and the game moved up and down the field with good play from both sides. The next score came from the Lions after a lineout in Reigate's 22. A maul from the lineout was well managed and drove Reigate back. The Lion's back row saw an opening and used their big runners to drive over the line to score.

Reigate responded almost immediately with the forwards doing great work to control the ball and earn a penalty on the Lions 22. Love saw the opportunity and took a quick tap and ran through a disorganised defence to score his second. Grimwood again added the extras.

As the first half was drew to a close, Reigate were on top and testing the Lions defence repeatedly. Oliver Fowles was unlucky to be held up over the line after a superb pick and go from the back of the scrum. Reigate weren't to be denied however and from the resulting 5 metre scrum, the ball was fed wide where full back Edward James was on hand to dive over for the score. From a very difficult angle Grimwood again added the conversion.

Reigate started the second half almost as fast as the first. After chasing their kick off, Reigate recovered the ball and Love again found space to run through the defence to complete a hat trick of tries. Grimwood converted again.

Complacency may well have crept into Reigate's game after the score and the Lions replied almost immediately with a try and scored again 10 minutes later. The muddy pitch was starting to take its toll on some the players.

Reigate backs managed to get a foothold back in the game and a sweeping move from right to left dragged the Lions defence across the field. The ball was then fed back to Love to again exploit the gaps and score his fourth of the game. Sheasby then converted.

However the Lions weren't done and scored a try almost immediately. Reigate were then in defensive mode and spent the remainder of the game in their own half repelling attack after attack. After the referee had signalled the final play of the day the Lions managed a final score.

It was a very entertaining game and with the final score 42 -27 to Reigate RFC, a great way to christen the new kit.

The U14's are next playing away to Effingham & Leatherhead next Sunday.
