Reigate Colts travelled to Crawley where they met a large squad in both size and numbers. The day started out with showers which soon turned to full downpour during the course of the match. From the off Reigate took control of the game putting several phases together and pinning Crawley in their own half. When Crawley managed to get get the ball, they made a few handling errors which ultimately allowed for a turnover and a try for Reigate. At the end of the first quarter it was 1 nil to Reigate. The second quarter opened with a more determined Crawley pushing hard against the Reigate defence, which eventually resulted in a try to Crawley levelling up the scores. However this was short lived as Reigate once again put together some great linking play along with support runners to go ahead, and so it would stay for the rest of the match.
Reigates defence was sublime with a mixture between drift defence and Blitzing, this left Crawley slightly bewildered and not sure what way to attack. In truth this form of the game may not have suited the Crawley team, along with their many subs which may caused some disruption to their game plan. They put one further score on the board with some great play and following up.
From a Reigate point of view the team put all of the practice into place with excellent support play, great defence and capitalising on the mistakes made by the Crawley team. This meant that for the final 2 quarters Reigate held fast even though Crawley were pushing hard to get themselves back into the game.
Despite the conditions and only having 4 subs Reigate seemed to be the more cohesive of the two teams. This resulted in a further 6 tries being scored for the visitors.
